Hi! I'm a newbie here and only beginning my journey to healing TMS.

I've had a string of health issues (most TMS or TMS equivalents) since I was 5 when I was badly abused. Now I am 42. They got to the point of disabling me. It's been a struggle and the disability has made life more difficult and harder to survive. It shocked me that the brain could create pain that ruins life quality to try to repress unconscious rage. Since reading Mind-Body Prescription I've seen amazing results in many areas and am resolving the TMS body wide. My chronic pain actually began after having meningitis (hospitalised 10 days for it in 2001) and since then the migraines and arthritis were crippling. No one could ever explain (until Dr Sarno's books) why meningitis triggered these things.

Since reading Mind-Body Prescription, the pain has lessened body wide and the TMS equivalents I can live with now, except that I still have crippling feet problems and bad pitting edema in my feet and ankles and am not sure if it's TMS due to the swelling and pitting. The doc & physio says it's plantar fasciitis which I saw in Dr Sarno's book as a TMS related thing. However, swelling not? Aside from that, over the years, Doctors have diagnosed me with psoriatic arthritis with spondlylo arthropathy, endimetriosis, asthma, rhinitis, carpal tunnel, wheat intolerance (aka irritable bowel) and many other things over the years. I hate doctor's visits and tests of any kind as I feel stressed and traumatised by them these days and tend to avoid visiting as much as possible. I go when it gets extreme. Reading Dr Sarno's books I began to wonder if over medical intervention since childhood can be an association! Always feel worse after seeing the doc.

Much to both my family doc and rheumatologist's disgust, I took myself off all prescriptions arthritis medications (methotrexate and mobic) over a year ago. I have managed better without them... which says a lot after 7 years on them. The methotrexate was causing my liver a lot of problems so I'm glad to be off it. I don't take pain killers. The only medication I now take is my asthma preventer. I am a severe asthmatic and my doc begged me not to go off that one as she said it could kill me. So I obeyed her in that one thing. They would like me back on the meds to help my feet and the swelling. My point of view is it's more likely to be TMS plus being overweight and needing to do more deep emotional healing. I am seeing a psychotherapist to get more in touch with rage and anger as I never felt angry my whole life until the last year since reading Dr Sarno's books.

Re the 3 factors for TMS: I have them all. Severe childhood abuse/trauma. Current life stress is high as the disability has stopped me working full time and I'm a single mother so income is a constant issue. Lastly, I have definitely been a people pleaser and do-gooder. Keeping the world happy but not myself. That's changed since I left my ex but I still get stressed when people are upset or unhappy. Working on that!

I'm grateful for this resource! :)
