Power of Music - Your 'go to' songs?

Realizing again how powerful music is - transporting me to another place and time or a different frame of mind... and so much more.

Somehow stumbled on an old song by Jack Johnson today - it's not necessarily a 'go to' song for me, but as I was listening to it, felt like there was more space in the constant thoughts or at least a shift in them.

Would love to hear what's on your playlist ...or songs that you have revisited that affected you, transported you, or reminded you of the power of music in some way. Orrrrr, just a song that made your day a little better in spite of everything else.

Most of BNL's output is pretty upbeat and positive, and if not, then at least nostalgic (i.e. "old apartment" and "pinch me") - so it all really speaks to me, but that song above in particular is like the King of songs as an antidote to my typical anxious and catastrophic thinking.

I just want to hijack this thread. Last time I listened to music was like well almost 2 years ago and its among the things i missed the most. If id still be able to listen to music id be blasting eurodance and happy hardcore. Most of them are songs with like 100,000 streams and i just love them so much; I just identify with the sound and it makes me happy. Whenever I'd have to do anything thats stressful I'd listen to this and just get in the flow.

I kiss your lips by tokyo ghetto pussy and Will I ever by Alice Deejay are two better known ones but i listen to a lot more obscure whatever.

If just one person on this entire forum sees this and listens to this and just thinks: what the fuck is wrong with that guy, it'd all be worth it. Actually this was worth it anyway cause just talking about this made me happy. And no I'm not on drugs when I listen to this:)

What are you talking about, @Mani?!! That first one is great! The second one isn't really my thing, I'm not into those high "little girl" voices affected by so many young girl groups but the opening sequence (before she starts singing) is a banger.

You're not actually hijacking, just reviving this thread, but it's timely with the Grammys just having taken place because I've added some new songs to my playlists. The Grammys gave me my first new obsession, Anxiety, by Doechii (nominated for five different awards, won for best video). Another song that's new to me is Snap by Rosa Linn, which I picked up during my re-watch of Shrinking before getting into Season 3 - that show and its entire soundtrack both make me very happy. Usually at least one laugh very much out loud in each episode, along with many other emotions. Every actor is amazing.

LOL, Anxiety is also about mental health. I guess I'm running true to form...

@JanAtheCPA ‘Anxiety’ by Doechii reminded me of a song I used to like and played regularly — and sure enough, listening again, it definitely samples ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ by Gotye featuring Kimbra (2011). Interestingly, that song in turn samples Luiz Bonfá’s 1967 instrumental ‘Seville’. You can’t keep a good tune down! I like the dance version (bottom video) best though... terrific choreography, imo...

@JanAtheCPA so I love high pitched music and half my hiphop playlist is what they call 'chipmunk soul'. Kanye West is very controversial but I still love his music.

When I was young I used to adore Alvin and the Chipmunks. There must be a reason I love high pitched craziness so much but i have no idea what it is. When i was young i had a very high pitched voice, I used to get called Squeaky, and that was with me being pretty big for my age too. Imagine how I'd talk after seeing 2 alvin and the chipmunk movies — yes, I'd impersonate Theodore for days on end; what a blast that must have been for the folks around me;) Thank god i settled into quite a deep normal voice. If id kept that voice my life would be a lot harder than it is now.

Yes so I feel terrible that i cant listen to your songs. I know Snap though, super catchy. I've definitely heard Anxiety too but it just does not ring a bell for me yet.

LOL, you bet it does! In fact, when the Grammys playlist started playing Anxiety I had to check my phone to see if my app had switched playlists on me. I first heard the original not too long after it came out - I was over at my ex's house, and his partner put on YouTube and we went down this rabbit hole of all the takeoffs on that song - and even after an hour of that I went home and added it to my favorites playlist - it holds up!

    That dance number is awesome!

My family had at least one of the original Chipmunks record albums (probably around 1960?) which we listened to for hours. My parents may have regretted getting it but they loved comedy albums and TV shows, so they were good sports about it. In those pre-internet days (before you could just look up everything) we also enjoyed speculating how the creator came up with the different voices. There was a cartoon show which I'm sure we watched, but I only remember listening to the album.
