You'll be just fine. Keep up the courage and love for yourself! I spent most of my life
loving, worrying , and caring for others. I basically forgot to give myself any
love. I am now doing that! I talked to Walt today who you'll come to know on
the wiki, I felt the pain just melt away. So many here, Walt, Eric, Steveo will
get you through this. Just know you will be you again, just a better you! Believe!
    Caring to you, Nancy

Thanks Eric, after soaking in all the information on tms I'm convinced I've been dealing with this all my life. I'm on my second week and I'm really in tune with feelings of Abandonment and inadequacy but I'm not feeling rage. I've been in therapy for issues of rage and worked on those issues. Is it possible to have tms with issues as mentioned vs having mostly rage?

Thanks Eric, thanks for the reminder to write about the positive! I've totally forgot that part! Wow. I'm having many feelings of sadness in how I have Pressured myself all my life and haven't validated any of the awesome stuff. I have worked as a alcohol and drug conselor for 20 years and have focused on helping many individuals. I have put my license on a two year hold as it is time to deal with me. I'm so grateful that a friend introduced me to this program! Thanks, cindy

sara_cynthia, the emotions of abandonment and inadequacy are rageful to the sub- conscious. So your on the right track. You don't have to be in an incredible hulk rage ya know. All it takes is acknowledging that you have these feelings and if you've acknowledged the above then you are doing your job.
After a while try some practice in focusing or Somatic Experiencing you should be able to get in touch with more of the rage, little doses at a time and soon youll begin to have shifts of days without pain but this could take six weeks or more so be patient and never put a time limit on your healing.
    Bless you

    Hello all,

How wonderful that this Wiki/Forum exists. I heard about Dr. Sarno years ago from Howard Stern. I read one of his books and realized it applied to me but I wasn't ready. I am now finally ready. I realized repressing my emotions has not only been causing me physical pain but causing problems with my marriage and my happiness as well. I feel I am on my way but have a lot of work to do. When I start adding up the TMS symptoms I have it shocks me. Shoulder, neck and arm pain, migraines, heartburn, allergies, and years of OCD type behavior.

Unfortunately I am not one of those people that read the book and got immediately better, it is going to take more as I have repressed my emotions for many years. I did the meditation exercise and realized how much of the weight of the world I am carrying. I am doing the Structured Education Program and feel I am making progress.

Since I have started examining my emotions and trying to work through them, it is interesting that I developed extreme pain in my left bicep and shoulder. I thought it was a ligament, tendonitis, something serious. The doctor told me it was a muscle spasm and recommend ibuprofen and physical therapy. The light went on and I knew it was TMS. It's ironic as it was the final convincing factor that I have no structural damage and that realizing I had TMS was the answer.

I have been up every night for the last few days because of the pain, but I am not medicating as I know the pain is coming from me and not from anything physically wrong. The pain does distract me from thinking about emotions, but I am determined.

Thanks for giving me a place to post this,

    Dan

Sara-cynthia, Herbie is right. TMS healing is not complicated. It's really basic and simple:
our pain is not genetic or structural, it's from repressed emotions. Often those go back to our childhood,
and they may even have been in our mother as she carried us in her womb.

As Dr. Sarno says, pain comes from repressed anger that goes way back in our lives and
may be triggered by something similar that recently happened. I was repressing feelings of anger
when my parents divorced when I was nine years old. Those feelings over year developed into internal rage
which Sarno says it often does over time. I had repressed the feelings until my closest friends divorced
and I no longer felt part of their family. I had lost feelings of family security from both divorces.

My back aches went away when I recognized the repressed emotions and forgave everyone
including myself. That brings internal peace and that drives out pain.

Dan M glad to have you aboard. The symptoms will be there for a minute until you start to get some reconditioning going and you know reconditioning takes the meditations and deep breathing along with doing things that make you happy and stopping the worry habit plus the SEP and you should be well on your way to winning this battle. To have pain move around to your neck or shoulders or really anywhere is almost always the case with tms -- that's how it works trying to make you think its still structural as you might know.

Take your time and do the SEP. Write all the questions you can so you can learn more and more about this tms. You have made a great decision.

    Bless You

    Hey everyone,
My name is Matthew, and I just found out I have TMS this past weekend. I have suffered from chronic lower back pain for 2 years now and have spent countless hours and visited many doctors to try to find out what was wrong with me. Two MRI's and a CT later I found out I have two bulging discs and degenerative disc disease and was told to learn to live with it (great bedside manner). My therapist recommended I check out Dr. Sarno's book and I was immediately hooked. I was on every page and I have now read it twice and purchased three other books. I have been learning everything I can about TMS and I was officially diagnosed on Tuesday via Skype with a specialist. I have a tremendous amount of pressure and stress in my life and the pain began during my second year of pharmacy school when the anxiety and pressure overcame me. In the next 6 weeks I graduate from pharmacy school, have to take 3 licensing exams, move to another state and sold one house and bought another. I am desperate for a support structure and until recently have felt hopeless and lost.

Hello RXTMS. You even got it in your name. Yes you are at the right place for healing. All you need to do right now, in the now is relax and be patient. Lighten up on yourself and lose all bodily focus by thinking psychological ok. You will lose most fear by understanding that tms is harmless but you need to get more tools on your belt and all of that will come with time ok.

Start at the SEP program here first ok. - http://www.tmswiki.org/ppd/Structured_Educational_Program

It's free and here you can ask all the questions you need as you go through the program. You will be able to learn the wisdom you need to get rid of the pain ok. What are the three other books you ordered if i may ask. I know all the tms books, We can chat about the authors. Each has their own flavor and wisdom to add to the healing structure.

    Have a great week.
    Bless you

Thank you so much for responding so quickly. I will absolutely start the structured educational program today! I got Mind body prescription, healing back pain, back sense, and the divided mind. Basically everything ever written by Dr. Sarno. And I got the back sense book because it was written by his colleagues.

My computer wants to be boss today so I posted that reply before I wanted to.

I just wanted to add that the SEP will get you thinking in terms of causes of your pain.

You've been studying and working hard, but the end is in sight.
I hope you will try to give yourself some relaxation time, mentally and physically,
so the exams you are facing won't be too rough for you.

In TMS we're supposed to think psychologically about the past,
but for you right now, I think the more you think about the light at the of the academic tunnel,
the healthier and happier you will be. It will soon be over and you'll be in a new place and starting
    a new life.

hello - I am new to the forum, and hope this is the right way to post.
I read all four of Dr. Sarno's books last fall, after developing pain in knees, thigh and a bit in my shoulder. My husband used Dr. Sarno's techniques several years ago and strongly recommended the practice. However, after reading, journaling, etc. nothing got better. I got several different diagnoses from practitioners, and finally one from the second rheumatologist: polymyalgia rheumatica. I was put on prednisone; now trying to get off that; using other anti-inflammatories and painkillers. Is this disease/problem familiar to you all? Any success in healing it with the TMS strategies? Thanks.

Hello Pds, Here is a thread on RA - http://www.tmswiki.org/forum/threads/rheumatoid-arthritis.2389/
Here's a page on How to be free from fibro - http://www.tmswiki.org/ppd/Freedom_From_Fibromyalgia
    And here's a success story from fibro - http://www.thankyoudrsarno.org/tag/fibromyalgia

Hope all this helps. We are not Drs but we are here to show you the success of those who have recovered from illnesses like yours.
You would do good to Start the SEP and ask all the questions you can ok. http://www.tmswiki.org/ppd/Structured_Educational_Program

Hi Herbie -- thanks for your response. However, this is not rheumatoid arthritis, nor fibromyalgia.
It's polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR). I'm wondering if anyone in this group has this diagnosis, and has experience using TMS to resolve it. Or, maybe it's one of the problems that is NOT resolvable with TMS and I should not spend time on that path.

If you or others have experience/thoughts, on PMR, that would be very helpful.

I think Dr. Sarno would lump PMS in with general arthritis and that it is TMS-caused.

You would not be wasting your time following TMS healing techniques as Herbie suggested.
I'd try that myself, before thinking it's structural.

  20. Eric "Herbie" Watson

PdS, I did a search of ailments that are like polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR). The above categories came to my attention. Part of our tms is trying to find someone with the same ailment. That's just thinking physical. As long as you focus on the tms you will always be in pain. You have to learn not to focus on the body and to think psychological, get in touch with your emotions.

If the Drs. have given up on you and you know deep down inside that you can be free then you found the right place but if you are still going to search for a structural cause then you are only looking for proof that is not there. I wish you the best. When your ready to start your lessons let us know.

You said you been to the DRs. Right?
Do you think they would tell you that journaling about your emotions is going to hurt you? The only other required fields to start is to stop fearing your ailments and stop focusing on them ok.

You can heal but you have to believe that you will heal. You might never find someone with your exact pain or symptom, some don't. I did'nt but I still had to take the plunge and do the work to get better. What do you think about mindfulness and tensive thinking control and clean thinking. All of these exercises to help you heal are all related to the mind so you don't have to do any physical exercise at all until you heal.

    Bless you
