Anal Pain - After Hemorrhoid Surgeries

    Hello,

    I have posted on here before and had some good feedback. I am looking for suggestions on how to deal with my situation.

    I have had 3 hemorrhoid surgeries resulting in tremendous pain over the last 5 years. I have a sensation of rectal fullness and tightness. I recently had a colonoscopy and told me I’m in the clear although I still have pain. I am trying to shift my mindset into the TMS world but the issue is that I generally see blood on the toilet paper. This constantly makes me believe there is something structurally wrong (hem, fissure, etc) yet I have been told by my doc they don’t see anything. The blood is coming from somewhere and that’s where I’m getting caught up in battle to accept TMS or to still focus on getting a second opinion on the anal bleeding. It doesn’t shoot pain when I have a bowel movement so there’s not something that is extremely painful during a bowel movement although it is slightly uncomfortable and concerning seeing the blood.

    Any suggestions or has anyone else done TMS for anal pain / CPPS / fissure / hem like symptoms ?

    I am currently reading through the program provided above, have been listening to Pain free you (Dan), listened to Alan Gordan’s book - The way out, have spent time on Curable as well.

    You are doing well educating yourself. You'll also now be aware, if you really listen to Dan Buglio that TMS is not a symptom dependent mechanism. My back pain is = to your anal pain because pain is only a signal, it's a message that something is happening and you need to pay attention not to the pain, but to the message it's bringing that you are out of balance. Dan talks about this balance in his own way (and tends to avoid discussion of emotion, as does Alan Gordon - who does a bit, but mostly only as it relates to the symptoms). My suggestion is to listen to some of the Curable Podcasts, because some of those go into the emotional side of TMS more than Dan and Alan do. And by this I mean not just fear of the symptoms, I mean recognizing that the emotions, fear, panic, obsession etc. you are experiencing with your symptoms are probably far more reaching within your life than just what you are currently experiencing. What you are currently experiencing is the message that that process is happening - that you have a stress and anxiety issue in general. The SEP delves into this a bit more.
    You need to pick a method. ONE method and give it a try. Eg. try Alan Gordon's methods for a few months. Personally, I like his written book because you can refer to it as a reminder of what action steps he suggests you take.
    See how that resonates with you.
    Or alternatively, give the SEP program a try, from beginning to end, and see what resonates with you.
    It's the personal investment in yourself and the commitment to learning the skills that you need to take care of yourself that comes next. Personally, I used some of Alan Gordon's approach pretty early on. It didn't totally resonate with me, so I did the SEP (twice, because my head was like wood the first time around!) ... and then I was ready to implement more of Gordon's strategies, keeping in mind everything I learned from the SEP. I watched Dan Buglio (and others, including some podcasts) less for learning and more for encouragement. I still listen to one or two folks, more specifically people who blend the two approaches.
    The most important thing right now is to find a way to commit to a learning program, especially if you find that some concepts are a bit of a struggle for you - that you feel yourself resisting some of the ideas. This is how TMS works, and committing is very a way to teach your brain that you will not longer be a victim to your pain, and that you are the one in control.
