    Hello everyone,

I have anal pain for a little over 5 years now which started back when I had a thrombosed hemorrhoid. It did not go away and a year and a bit later I had a hemorrhoidectomy. This was a brutally painful recovery. A year later I had a second surgery as I was told I had more hems. After this I thought i developed pelvic floor dysfunction as my muscles seemed tight and I had a sensation a a golf ball in my rectum. Again thinking I still had a physically issue I went to my family doctor and was told I did still have a hemorrhoids even though she thought it shouldn’t be bothering me I decided to pay 6k and fly and get a laser hem surgery thinking this was the answer.

This was not the answer and in fact was extremely painful. I had to go back and get some sort of lump removed that was left after surgery. So I still had anal pain (golf ball / pressure feeling) after 3 surgeries and 1 procedure. I was still seeing a pelvic floor physiotherapist and yet nothing is changing.
I recently listened to “the way out” and it opened my eyes to the potential of TMS. My issue is that I have had so many surgeries down there that I have a tight anus and lots of scar tissue and now get bleeding as it is restricted from tightness. There is a minor physical issue I am aware of but how can I treat this as TMS even tho I know there is some physical issues.

Saying there’s nothing wrong with me isn’t necessarily true although I don’t believe that it’s causing all my pain. How can I go about this the right way ?

You have a tight anus because you are holding it with tension. This can happen to any place in the body that has had surgery or pain (including injury or illness). Chicken or egg, it doesn't matter.
The anxiety, fear and focus are what fuels TMS and the anxiety is usually the genesis of TMS in the first place, long before we have physical symptoms of any kind. We often aren't aware of this anxiety and internal stress.
    "The Right Way"
is start by reading one book by Dr. Sarno - the Divided Mind is a good one because it presents TMS in many facets. Digest the book and then consider how you relate to what he's written.
Please let us know what you think!
The next step is to take the actions he recommends: Think Psychologically (and not physiologically), consider that repressed subconscious anger is usually a large part in generating symptoms and our thought patterns. Consider your personality traits and how they might also contribute to your stress. Notice if you are a person who can feel a wealth of emotion or if that is difficult for you.
Consider a program of some kind that continues to guide you thought the work to sort out the psychological aspects of TMS and encourages you to drop the fear, and focus - our free Structured Educational Program found at TMSwiki.org (scroll down page to find it) is a good one. There are several others: The Curable App, there are TMS practioners that have guided and/or coached programs you pay for that are more visually interactive, there is Dr. Schubiner's book Unlearn Your Pain (which is similar to our SEP in many ways). To any of these I'd add Alan Gordon's The Way Out and any of Claire Weekes books on anxiety.
Don't rush or hurry your way through anything. Just take it in stride and and work through things slowly. All reading materials are slim tombs and your mind might need some time to digest this completely new way of thinking.
There are TONS of youtube video channels that offer free TMS support to, thanks to the generosity of recovered folks who work in the field. Dan Buglio, Tanner Murtaugh, and Nichole Sach's podcasts The Cure For Chronic Pain. All offer such great guidance to the work.

    Great catch, @Maggsie, thanks!

Go to https://www.tmswiki.org/forum/members/tmstraveler.11785/ (tmstraveler) and click on the tab for Postings. FYI, posts on everyone's profile page are listed with the most recent ones first. To filter the results and see just the original threads started by a member, click on "all threads by" at the bottom of any Postings page. It depends on how much someone posts, of course, but this can be a great way to follow an individual's journey from "suffering newbie totally focused on symptoms" to TMS recovery. @tmstraveler is an excellent writer and he also created his own video in the Success Stories subforum.
