Article re Martha Beck: "The anxiety secret": how she stopped living in fear

I appreciate that this article (in the following link) is essentially about Martha Beck advertising her new book that became available to today in the UK, but I really liked the idea of swapping the anxiety spiral for a creativity spiral to relieve chronic anxiety and fear and lots of other stuff mentioned in the piece... so I thought I'd share...

Love this, @BloodMoon ! Everyone I know, including myself, seems to have lost their creative urges as their anxiety grew, especially over the last five years. The world, society, and the media have got us so afraid, so anxious that it shuts down all creativity, which is also play —and both of those things are healing.

For a hobby, I used to write novels, and I used to say that writing them was like reading them because the story would just come out of my subconscious mind and go straight onto the paper. it was literally like taking a drug. It was euphoric. The whole time I was in the process of writing a story I would be very up.

Why did I stop doing that? Why don’t I do it now?

I used to love to color in coloring books. It was so relaxing and fun, but as I got more anxious, I stopped doing it. (I can see the pattern here!)

I’m all about reducing my anxiety and I think it’s time to start having fun!
