Hello everyone! My name is Majda and I'm 24 yo, i was struggling with TMS since i was 15 and I'm new to this amazing approach and this website.
I just found about dr Sarno works 2-3 months ago, and I started to educated myself about TMS. What i want to talk about here is how i could deal with my mind to make it slow down, when i found about this approach i was easily convinced because i had already been doubtful about my pains.. And i noticed some changes in my body.. Some parts are not hurting me like before.. And also I'm not afraid from physical activities like i was,but when i understand this deeply i have this urge that i need to be better soon because I'm 24 and my life really stopped when i was 19 .. I dropped school due to severe pain..and i couldn't bear any job, So i abandoned my normal movements which causes muscles weakness ofc.
Now i look at my life and i feel like i have nothing no career no skills to enter the job market.. And also i knew that healing is a process and different from one to another, but at the same time i feel like I'm not doing as much as i could and that this will take long period maybe years i don't know to be able to be normal again, and to rebuild my life again. This fear of the unknown really troubles me and also makes me harsh on myself!

    Hi Majihope, welcome!

First I think it helps if you find a meaning to what you've been through. Might be a pragmatic one, a spiritual one, anything that gives you perspective and keep you away from victimization. The TMS journey is pretty much about finding the strenght we didn't know we had.

Now that you've read Sarno, your brain is already shifting and changes will in fact occur. As you said, it takes time, and it's hard to notice if we take the pain as measure. Do the work and take pride in it. Know that a big part of the bad thoughts and feelings are TMS at work, wanting to take you to rest and its idea of safety. Allow yourself to self-compassion specially when you feel down.

When you say it feels your life stopped, it's far from the truth. You're probably right now doing the most important work of your life. That's why it's so hard. But look around and you will see a lot of people being hit by TMS, and just not knowing that's happening.

You're not alone. Keep visiting this forum :)

    Hi Majihope!

Woah, our stories are really similar! I'm also 24 with symptoms that started when I was 15. I haven't had a job in over a year at this point and I get it. I truly do. I know how scary or frustrating it can feel. I feel like I'm missing out on job opportunities, events. But, I'm truly positive that this 'lost time' will be made up tenfold due to the amazing mindset changes I've gone through. My outlook on life is quite different and a lot more positive now..

I think the thing that gets me through these negative thought cycles the most is remembering that this season/pain/symptom/etc is only temporary while also honoring where I'm at right now. This too shall pass!

Our Structured Educational Program is designed to guide you through the learning process, one day at a time, over 7 weeks (not faster than that!). This work takes time, and the journey is different for every individual person, but at such young ages, the truth is that you have plenty of time.

As you do each "Day" of the SEP, use the rest of your time to read additional resources that are recommended. For example, Hope & Help For Your Nerves, by Claire Weekes, is probably the #2 recommendation after you read one of Dr. Sarno's books. Her little book has saved many thousands of people from all over the world for over fifty years.

Be sure to navigate directly to the Success Stories subforum and read at least one Success Story (or more, depending on the length) every day. It is also inspiring to read the followup responses to a Success Story.

Find at least one podcast to listen to regularly. Everyone has different favorites - my personal favorite is The Cure For Chronic Pain with Nicole Sachs, because almost every episode is like a personal therapy session with Nicole. She started her weekly podcast in the fall of 2018, so there are plenty of episodes to listen to. Her new website has them all here: https://www.yourbreakawake.com/podcasts/the-cure-for-chronic-pain-with-nicole-sachs-lcsw-2 (The Cure for Chronic Pain with Nicole Sachs, LCSW) and the new keyword search feature makes it pretty easy to find episodes on specific topics. Once you find an episode you want to hear, it's probably easier to find it in your podcast app.

I always recommend starting with the first two episodes so that you understand who Nicole is. In your podcast app you can sort episodes for a show in chronological order and choose oldest first. On her website it is most recent first and there are a LOT of episodes, but I have the URLs for the first two.
S1E1 titled "My Story" is here: https://www.yourbreakawake.com/podcasts/the-cure-for-chronic-pain-with-nicole-sachs-lcsw-2/episodes/2148744393 (S1 Ep1: My Story)
and S1E2 where she introduces JournalSpeak is here: https://www.yourbreakawake.com/podcasts/the-cure-for-chronic-pain-with-nicole-sachs-lcsw-2/episodes/2148744392 (S1 Ep2: Meet JournalSpeak, Your New Best Friend)

Thank you for sharing your feelings and your thoughts with me here, and yeah i agree is the mindset that really helps us to get through this and i found out that this experience with pain and what it brings with ( depression, anxiety..), even it's difficult and challenging it's really have another side which amazes me, like if i never had TMS how could i know these things about pain and how our brain experience it , and how emotions have such a powerful effects on our bodies. I'm grateful i have it and now i know how i could to try to understand myself more through it, and to recover too.

No, we don't allow that on this forum. If her books are in the public domain you can do your own search. If they are not, it's not legal for us to share material that is protected by copyright or DRM.

I've seen others say that there are free audio and video recordings of Dr Weekes on YouTube.
