    Hi all

So here goes! I have been having severe back and leg pain for the last two and a half years which seems a very short time in comparison with some of the people I have read about on here!

It was brought on by an injury at work, believe it or not, on day 4 of starting the career of my dreams and something I had worked incredibly hard to achieve. I have subsequently had 2 micro discectomy operations on my L4/5 disc and have been told I have severe degenerative disc disease and a bulging L5/S1 disc. As helpful as all the doctors and specialists have been I have also been told that I need to accept that I might not be pain free again and that I have to accept my condition. I am currently under the care of the Pain Clinic but don't hold out a lot of hope. I have also been told that there is no hope of being able to continue with my career as it is a physical job.

My back pain was so severe this week, I assumed because of a wedding I attended last weekend, that I took a couple of days off and finally picked up John Sarno's 'Healing Back Pain' and recognised myself on every page! So here starts my journey.......

Hi Ccam, I am also a newbie, but I came onto this forum having read as much as I could read. And that would be my advice. Read, read, read, all you can. Smother yourself in knowledge of how TMS works. It has helped me tremendously. Stay close.

Thank you all for your kind words and support, I really appreciate it. It is good to find other people who know what I am going through instead of the eye rolling and glazed over looks I get when I talk about my back to most people (which meant that I just stopped talking about it - building up the anger!!)

I am educating myself in TMS and slowing starting to notice a reduction in my pain. I guess the more I invest and keep on trying the more the reinforcement works. I had pretty much resigned myself to the constant pain but something in my head was telling me that there had to be more to this. I guess that at 34 I couldn't accept that this was the way my life was going to be. I anticipate that this is going to be a journey rather than an epiphany.
