Day 19 - something to feel proud about

Four years ago my husband and I were robbed on the street in Paris. Thankfully we were not hurt physically but it was a traumatic experience mentally. I never thought I would be able to forgive the three young men who attacked us. Writing a letter to them as part of this programme has helped me to gain perspective on the experience, one of the most stressful of my life. I realised that by holding on to my anger and feelings of grievance I was only hurting myself, not them. And so I've let go of those emotions. I ended my letter by saying I forgave them and that does make me feel rather proud. I don't think it's a co-incidence that my sciatica has gone and I haven't felt the need to take painkillers for back-pain for over two weeks.:)
Thank you for creating this programme.

    Hi Melody,

I am so happy you've been able to find such depth and importance in your life as you investigate Dr. Sarno's approach. To forgive is wonderful, isn't it?

How great for you, that you have found the key in your process of understanding what the pain somehow wanted you to learn... Congratulations! And happy for you that the back pain melted away!

Hi, Melody. You certainly should feel proud of yourself, for having found your way to write those robbers and forgive them. It's wonderful to know how your pain then went away. My severe back pain went away after I journaled about the effects my parents' divorce had on me when I was seven and I had been repressing feelings of abandonment and insecurity ever since. I forgave them (they were long gone, but I forgave them in my heart).

Thank you Walt. My parents are gone too but I've written to them and that's helped me understand why certain things happened. I suppose when we are children we think our parents should be perfect but they're just fallible like everyone else. By the way my mother had a black lab - he was lovely but totally crazy!
