Hello, I am 53 years old and new to TMS and trying to work the program. I understand that pain is the major symptom that individuals are experiencing. I don't have pain but am currently dealing with an overactive bladder and being treated by a Urologist. I feel this is due to TMS but have not found alot of info on the sites and forums I have been reading. I know believing that TMS is the cause of your issues is Step 1 in the process to healing. So I am trying to find out if others have been on the TMS journey with overactive bladder (specifically frequent urination). I also have a history of IBS, acid reflux, gastritis, heartburn, hiatal hernia, anxiety, OCD, teeth grinding, and depression. I have seen medical professionals for all these issues and TMS never was discussed with them. I definitely think I have a pattern of TMS but wanted to ask others their thoughts since pain seems to be the major symptom with TMS that is not a real issue for me. Thank you

Welcome @Ellie2017 - and... I just put frequent urination into our forum search tool and, having been here for a while, I was not at all surprised to get 5 pages of hits.

After you've used the search tool and seen those results, feel free to read my profile story, where you'll see that pain was not my primary symptom, nor did I have any pelvic-region symptoms for that matter. It's all irrelevant. If medical professionals can't provide a definitive diagnosis or treatment, then you're left with the "what have you got to lose?" choice, which is to acquire mindbody tools to get your life back. Which should be a no-brainer considering it's 1) not invasive and 2) costs little or nothing.

The next resource to check out is our Success Stories subforum, where you can scan the titles and start reading ones that interest you. You'll be amazed at what IS TMS.

I'm not getting a sense that you've read one of Dr Sarno's books. This is THE essential starting point. If you're on Day 7 of Alan's program, he's not emphasizing Dr Sarno because he's trying to go in a different direction from emotional examination - although he certainly started out as a Sarno recovery success.

The Sarno book you need to read is The Mindbody Prescription. It's the book where he broke free from his original back pain paradigm and embraced what we now know is an infinite number of ways in which the primitive TMS brain mechanism can manifest in our bodies.

Finally, don't worry about the "belief" aspect. You don't need 100% belief to get started - that comes with education. Let us know how it goes.

Thank you for the reply. I am inspired by your story and want to check out all the resources you listed at the end, they'll be very helpful.

I'm also reviewing all the posts related to my issue and definitely will read The Mind Body Prescription.

Thank you for your reply as I embark on this new journey, it's much appreciated!

Back in 2022 long before being TMS aware, I had a month long journey of frequent urination (there was like a week stretch where I was going every 5 minutes) plus extreme pelvic pain. Nothing was ever found, was diagnosed with pudendal neuralgia. It was without a doubt TMS. But in my opinion I (my nervous system) wasn’t primed back then to turn that into a chronic issue. Since then and on and off my whole life I’ve had every symptom you mention minus hiatal hernia. Through this work I’ve gotten over the GI stuff, still unfortunately on a low fod map low acid diet (and I’m vegan, so my diet is pretty limited lol) but I’m not dealing with GI pain at least, and I slowly add in new foods, I don’t view the diet as my savior just a means to live discomfort free while I work through getting out of perpetual fight or flight.

All that said, you are in the right place.

Thank you for the feedback. It is encouraging to know someone else has had success dealing with some of these issues. I have been looking at my diet for bladder and ibs irratants. Hopefully will get some relief there.
