Have you been overly critical of yourself lately? How and why have you done this?

I'm critical of myself all of the time and have been for decades I have been my own worst enemy but between this program and Kristin Neff's self compassion workbook I am learning a new way to treat myself. A new way to listen to my body and listen to what it is feeling. I'm not living from the neck up anymore. Its a journey, and its not easy at all.

I grew up be criticized by an angry father and though my mom was very loving she was never able to stand up to my dad. I was forever trying to prove my worth, prove myself and when I fell short I would just beat myself up. I dated men similar to my father so I could continue to prove I was good, but of course that never ever worked. Luckily I married a kind man and I had been working on myself and things were going well but those inner voices never truly go away and when you are emotionally low they attack and you end up with chronic something. So here I am and I am really doing the work necessary to get through this chronic dizziness and get to the other side. I am enjoying his program.

Kristen Neff is known as the queen of self-compassion - what a good companion she is for doing the SEP!
