I found about Dr Sarno while investigating about the latest that neuroscience had come up to regarding chronic pain.
I first experienced what was labeled as ciatica when I was 13. Had a couple of ugly weeks for which I recovered with steroid injection in the butt.
Almost 15 yrs later I "injured" my back while moving to a new house. The pain was super awful and I ended up in the hospital for a couple weeks with doctors looking at me out of options and not knowing what to do. Here comes the interesting part which I only realized now. After the epidural failed, the doctors just got me high as a kite for 3 days. Completely out of this world. During this days the pain finally went out and I left the hospital. -now i understand that my brain had the time to reprogramme-
Now, around 10 yr later I experienced a new episoded which lasted a couple months. Orthopedists, neurologists, phisioterapists, acupunture, the whole deal. Nothing worked.
Until I found out Dr Sarno in YouTube. So I decided that I was not injured and began facing the fear of my pain and going out, walking, etc (despite the terrible Nocebo of one of my doctors who said "the pain will be back the minute you get back to your normal life, if you do not have surgery....ahh by the way it's around $17K)
It was magical. Each day I faced a movement or posture without fear, I won it back.
I was going super strong but then I had a really stressing, upsetting event (just the day I felt 100% healed) so now I'm like at 90% trying to calm down the fear again.
I'm eternally greatful for Dr Sarno and for all the other doctors that have chosen to share this knowledge freely, instead of the huge amounts of money that surgery has left to many others. There's a special place for all this medical professionals in heaven.

Awesome, thank you for your story, @AlitasBBQ!

You might appreciate the work of David Hanscom, MD - A well-regarded Seattle back surgeon who found Dr. Sarno after experiencing the fallout from his own failed back surgery, and eventually developed a program he calls Back In Control (plus book, website, podcast...). At the point where about 40% of his pre-surgery patients were doing the program and canceling their procedures, he quit his surgery career, and for the last few years has devoted himself to his pain recovery work.

Keep it up, and keep posting!
