Do people in general really want to get better?

Have you ever talked to someone who clearly has TMS — talked about Dr. Sarno, Alan Gordon, the books, and your own recovery story — and they showed little to no interest?
I mean, ever since I got the courage to talk about it with others (and I know several people with fibromyalgia, chronic pain, and similar symptoms), they seem excited about TMS content… but what I notice is that they don’t REALLY look into it. This pisses me off. Hahaha.

I even created an Instagram account to post content in Portuguese (I’m from Brazil), but no one cares!
Are they lazy? Don’t they trust me?

When I told my doctor about TMS and what I’ve been going through, she said, “That’s nice, but most people don’t want to go through it. They want a quick solution.”
I get it. I’m on meds too. But they’re not enough. They never were.

    Maybe they’re not suffering enough?
    I don’t know…

Please let me know if you guys have gone through something similar.

This is extremely common - I think most people that discover TMS and recovery methods want to evangelize and share the word and are almost always met with the response you describe.

Steve Ozanich himself coined the "threw the book across the room" trope where first time Sarno readers reject the message.

There's lots of reasons for this but your doctor is right, most people want a quick solution - they want to take a pill, or a do a stretch, etc. There's also some offloading of blame too - "this happened to me, from some external source - there is no way I caused it!"

I' ve tried to help people and got shot down instantly even when i try to explain how the human body works, they might not never know but ultimately they will find out when they are ready.

For some people that's true... they have to be at rock bottom, e.g. bedridden and housebound, before they will give mind/body/TMS work a chance. As @Fal says, they will find out if/when they are ready.

And as @Mr Hip Guy says, there are lot of reasons to include the ones he mentions.

Sometimes people even get angry when you tell them about TMS... the reasons for this are discussed on this thread https://www.tmswiki.org/forum/threads/why-people-get-so-angry-when-i-mention-tms.30121/#post-161690 The main one is that they think they are being told that they have something mentally wrong with them because they interpret what you're telling them as being "it's all in your head" and therefore "you're going crazy".

"When the pupil is ready, the teacher will appear."

That applies here, and Bloodmoon is right above.

I still get disappointed over this dynamic, but it is almost universally true - anytime I have tried to broach this subject when friends, family, etc I have been rebuked. The only one I have won over has been my wife and she is still not 100% on board like I am. I've amended my methods over time, now I just listen to all the talk about aches and pains and whatever the ailment du jour is, and try to "nudge" the conversation in the right direction - I literally did this with someone just yesterday who was talking about their chiropracter visits and how their spine is "straight, no S-curve - and the Chiro said that's why I feel pain". I just listened and gently (in my mind) called into question the entire modality of that kind of thinking. Maybe I managed to plant a seed, who knows.
