Holy moly, my LPR and GERD galloped back into town today! After 8 days of religiously working the SEP an old friend called. I had been sitting all day working on taxes, had just gulped down 2 Tylenol to ease my butt and back pain, answered the phone and was too hoarse to talk to her! Classic LPR, replete with foul taste and lump in throat. Croaked to my friend that I would call her back. Did some breath work and decided to report this to the forum.

Now, it did not come on because of my friend as she is a breath of fresh air, but I think I know what caused it…for one, I am making too much progress! Except that I did a little research this morning on haital hernias, after coming across medical pictures of mine by accident. The accompanying report classified my haital hernia as a IV, and that means that my stomach sphincter is a bit open all around. Thus, acid is free to move upwards resulting in Gerd and LPR. I have been on a low acid diet and of course, this was on my mind. But by the time my friend called, the damage was done. I would truly love your feedback on this. Thank you!

Well, @Mtnjac, everything is always going to be worse with stress, distress, and emotional repression - take your pick as to which one (or more) is in play for you at any given point in time.

I know nothing about types of hiatal hernias or LPR, and it wouldn't be appropriate for me to comment on the accidental view of your medical pictures and your subsequent choice to research accordingly. I've done my own research for diagnoses before making my decision on how to engage (or not) in medical treatment.

I have your typical everyday stress-induced GERD - which might also be somewhat age-related at this point, but the truth is that I've had TMS-sourced GI issues all my life, including pretty memorable stress-based GERD incidents even as a kid - but they've all been much more manageable since I discovered Dr. Sarno and TMS and did the work in 2011. I can pretty quickly see a direct correlation between GERD symptoms and holding tension when I'm not being mindful of my stress level. Which is engaged a lot as I try to negotiate these trying times, ugh.

So I guess my feedback would be - forgive yourself for having a setback, thank your TMS brain for trying to distract you in order to keep you "safe", and hang in there with the work!
