No pain while away from home

    Hi All,

I've developed severe chronic gut pain after my back pain went away with the TMS approach.
But I noticed that when I'm away from home in some other country then the pain reduces significantly or goes away completely. It doesn't make much sense to me as being away I either travel changing places each day or stay in the same place and work remotely. In either case, I still have plenty of stress but don't have usual pains and symptoms when I'm far away from home. I changed houses and cities within the same country, and it doesn't help. But the symptoms disappear the same day I left when I'm abroad. I'm starting to think that I need to leave my home country permanently to feel better, but I don't really want to.

Thank you for reading. Any thoughts?

Ah, the problem isn’t where your body lives! It’s where your head is living.
What TMS beliefs and practices do you hold to examine and relieve the inner stress you create about your home, family etc? The rage and other deep emotions often lurk in the places we don’t recognize.

@Michael Coutts post will give you and idea of why we can get symptoms when at home: (not that all living situations are the same) https://www.tmswiki.org/forum/threads/all-work-and-no-play-makes-pain.28286/#post-147066 (All Work and No Play Makes PAIN!!!)

I came down with TMS in my early thirties in Los Angeles California. I recovered, But as a result of looking deeper into life I realized I wasn't a good fit with where I lived, so I moved to Nashville, Tn....that was about 20+ years ago. Of course I brought myself with me, so I have had some relapses, but probably less than if I stayed...everything you see in the news now about LA? I predicted all of it...

about 10 years ago I went back to the LA and San Francisco area's to do some work...I was there about 2 months... I started noticing my general 'anxiety base level' to be higher that when I am in Nashville...On a scale of 1-10 I would say everybody in California wakes up about a 3 or 4....whereas here in Nashville it's a 0 or 1.

What's different? Traffic. Population density. Lawlessness, Nanny government, expenses, EARTHQUAKES ...all of the things that would tend to make an average male on guard and alert...no time to relax, you might get hit or mugged or the House might fall down. This wasn't based on the kind of fear which is baseless....all of these things happened to me at one time or another and the TMS responsibility gene made them treble when I was married with kids...other people to look out for and keep safe. RAGE makers becuase I feel helpless.

Mercifully, even with them in place, I got over TMS, but I would imagine I would have to be three times more vigilant if I lived there. Remember, even Sarno noted there wasn't as much back pain in Africa among indigenous Africans, but westerners over there had the same amount...so it IS inside of us, but certain geographical places tend to provoke more anxiety which might mean more TMS factors.

I used to do a Job in New York every Fall...I don't do it anymore. The money wasn't worth the extra anxiety. So, I totally understand the geographical factor.. The Good news is that if you look inside and find the conditioning, you can beat it anywhere, though there is nothing wrong with leaving or avoiding places that you learned aren't tuned to your frequency.

I think living in a foreign environment is providing the distraction you need, so you don't need TMS to distract you. I moved a lot and lived in foreign countries when I still had TMS, and it would always subside for awhile after moving. Then it would return once things became routine and ordinary.
