I was super optimistic yesterday (my pain is in my brain it’s not “real” and I felt great). I exercised and today my knee has swelling and I’m sore - so it can’t be TMS, right? Osteoarthritis is an inflammatory condition. I’m just so frustrated and lost today. Is anyone else trying Sarno method for their osteoarthritis? Any success?

Tasha Stanton is a neuroscientist who works with people who have osteoarthritis. She does a test where she places a patients knee in an imaging device and pulls on their leg. The imaging device makes it look like their knee is coming apart. It's used to scare them and when they get scared the swelling in their knee increases. It's a test to show that fear makes the brain increase swelling. I don't know if this is the exact video because I haven't seen it in a long time but here's one of her videos. youtube]qGQqs8y4v_M . Can't post the video directly cause it's blocked but if you paste that into google it should be the first result.

This is great, John, I have a strong suspicion my knee “arthritis” is psychosomatic. Are you a volunteer? That’s a big ask.

    Nice find, @JohnDellatto!

@Serend, just do a web search on "stress and inflammation".

The connection between stress, the immune system, and inflammation is scientifically well-known, well-documented, and well-accepted. But it is not being communicated to patients.

Every once in a while I see a question like this which prompts me to explain the nature of the forum, for anyone who sees this thread.

Our community here is comprised of individuals just like yourself, who are working on physical symptoms by employing mindbody knowledge and tools. Some of us have been doing it longer than others. Those who choose to share their experiences and resources on the forum do so voluntarily. Nobody is paid, and even the people with administrator or moderator authority, like myself, are volunteers.

The existence of tmswiki.org is a labor of love, created and maintained by one of Dr Sarno's patients, known here as @Forest.

I just didn’t understand that we are all here helping each other. Under your name it says “peer supporter” so I didn’t know you were freely helping me. I watched a lot of Tasha Stanton yesterday and was so happy I almost cried. I could cry. Today I am “pain free” even though I exercised yesterday. I am just so optimistic that I can get close to my dreams (outdoor activities). Thank you

That’s great. If you can be pain free one day then you can make it permanent.

Haha, those labels are actually a bit of a mystery. There is a software algorithm which applies new labels after people have been posting for a while :)
