Hi everyone. I am new here and I have been suffering from TMJ for almost 20 years. About 12 years ago I did physical therapy and it was not super helpful. I recently asked my TMJ specialist I see for another referral, and he specified pulsating ultrasound treatment. I was told the place also does dry needling. Has anyone benefited from PT with neuromuscular issues? I get pain when singing, prolonged talking, opening my mouth wide, laughing, etc. I welcome comments and suggestions.

This forum is for TMS, an acronym created by John Sarno MD to describe chronic pain conditions caused by long term emotional stress and distress. Also referred to as MBS, for MindBody Syndrome, or PPD, for PsychoPhysiologic Disorder.

We don't discuss PT techniques here other than to state that when it comes to chronic pain conditions, the placebo effect is likely to be responsible for temporary relief using PT, massage, acupuncture, and all the other procedures which involve the "laying on of hands".

We also believe that TMJ is often, if not always, a mindbody condition.

Please go to tmswiki.org for an introduction to these concepts, which can probably help you if you are open to a different possibility.

There's also a quick self-assessment test for mindbody conditions here: https://ppdassociation.org/ppd-self-questionnaire (Self Quiz — Psychophysiologic Disorders Association) (Self Quiz — Psychophysiologic Disorders Association) from the PPD Association (the professional group of mindbody/TMS doctors, therapists and other practitioners)

If you take a look at these resources and you're still interested in our forum, I would strongly urge you to start over with a username that does not self-identify as damaged. Just sayin'. Those who identify as damaged or ill tend to stay that way!
