SI joint pain

    Please, has anyone had experience with SI joint pain? Could this be a symptom of TMS?

    Yes, I have much experience.
    It is TMS, stress, anxiety.

    Thank you. I tried everything and nothing helped. I always thought it was because of my psyche. Because it happened exactly a week after I ended a toxic relationship with a person who was destroying me mentally. I got hold of Dr. Sarno's book and read it several times. It's really hard not to think about the physical pain and focus on the psychological suffering, but I'm trying. What is your experience?

    I have a revolving door of symptoms in that area. SI joint pain, hip, hamstring tendinopathy, sciatica. I am treating it all as one TMS bogeyman along with my back and neck pain.

    I no longer have chronic SI joint pain. It likes to attempt to visit from time to time, but goes within minutes, in general now (a lot of my old symptoms do this, it's just a phase of healing I am in).
    I would imagine that you had a lot of stress and other emotions about this "toxic person". Dr. Sarno discusses us reaching into our rage and other "dark" emotions that we may have been repressing for much of our life...and then sometimes for some folks, it comes to light in this kind of situation. You have noticed! That's a wonderful first step.
    The psychological suffering is brought on by a variety of things: anxiety, fear (lots of fear) and can increase when we begin to get a greater knowledge of the mechanisms Sarno uncovered that lead to chronic pain. Our brain tries hard to protect us from all the hurts of the world, but the truth is, we can handle it!
    I no longer have psychological suffering. Sure I can go through periods of stress and anxiety and when that happens, I tend to get an increase in symptoms but as soon as I bring this all to my awareness the symptoms fade quickly. This is a normal and natural function of the human body that pretty much everyone has - but other people don't tend to suffer psychologically, or go through the fear. Some of us just need to learn how to balance that.

    The free Structured Education Program found at TMSWIKI.ORG (scroll down to find it) will take you through a variety of ways to complete the work Dr. Sarno set out for us. It will help you do that psychological work, deal with fear, and help you understand how personality traits can play into it all. Go through it slowly, a little every day to learn the skills it teaches. You can ask any questions you have about it on this forum. Everyone here has had TMS at one point or another and volunteers to support you through your journey.

    Sounds like you are already on the right track, and are beginning to really understand what is happening. Let that be of great comfort to you. Dr. Sarno also reminds us that TMS is benign and can't hurt you. The pain is real, but you can teach your mind that the mind/body connection is not to be feared. When there is no fear and your nervous system becomes regulated, the symtoms fade.

    This is a very common question, but it's the wrong one, @Paula28. The only legitimate response is that every person's recovery is different. It is a fact that comparing your progress to anyone else is a recipe for failure. There is no one answer, and there is no predetermined timeline. We know about how long it takes for various types of acute injuries to heal, but chronic pain is not an injury.

    Do the Structured Educational Program and be open and flexible so you can accept whatever it's going to take for you. That is the path to success.
