stuck on feeling safe

Hi everyone! It's been a while.

I was feeling not too terrible up until Christmas and it's been difficult. Went on a trip out of the country last month and emotionally, it did more harm than good. (Also physically, since I got cold and stomach bug, yikes) I feel like I'm recovering from this vacation still... I also moved into my first ever home about 3 weeks ago. It's been a whirlwind. I'm feeling crazy tense and the symptoms are very "on".

So, I'm going back to the basics. At the surface level, I know I don't feel that safe in my body. But what now? I recognize that but, I don't feel safe enough to do any somatic tracking, journaling, etc. It just reminds me of how unwell and stuck I've been feeling this past year. Any suggestions?

    Peace and love. Thanks. ♡

I have a strong bias for "doing the work" which, when we use that term here, refers to the emotional work originally advocated by Dr Sarno, and made accessible in the works and programs of practitioners such as Dr Howard Schubiner (Unlearn Your Pain), Dr David Hanscom (Back in Control and the DOC Journey) and Nicole Sachs LCSW (The Cure For Chronic Pain).

Somatic tracking, neuroplasticity, and the other brain science modalities provide important information to further explain the TMS/PPD/MBS mechanism beyond Dr Sarno's initial theories (he wasn't a researcher and certainly not a neuroscientist after all). But this knowledge appears to be providing the equivalent of the famous "book cure". Just having an understanding of the neuroscience helps many people recover from their crisis. For a while. Until it doesn't.

I don't think you've ever done the Structured Educational Program, @waruwarui, so that's what I recommend. It's a commitment, to be done slowly, with intention and self-honesty. Success requires emotional vulnerability and letting go of expectations and pressure.

The SEP is on the main TMSWiki.org, it's free, and doesn't even require any kind of registration. It does require an open mind and a willingness to keep going even when your brain tries to trick you into giving up, which will happen. We're here to help you keep going.
