The Pain Cycle

    With severe pain, the pain felt causes you to be uncomfortable and frustrated (even though you may not fear the pain as you are aware it’s not dangerous). This then gets noticed by the mind as a threat and amplifies the threat signal and more pain. The loop feeds itself and is self sustaining. How does one get out of this loop without pain relief? Indeed one can say affirmations that the pain is safe, calm themselves, react neutrally, distract themselves and slow down their breaths. However, the pain isn’t nice and you’re not going to like it and that will still get picked up by the brain as a potential threat so how do we stop the loop from self sustaining itself? This is probably the hardest challenge I’m facing.
