Day 1 Trying Something New

    Dear TMS community,

Whilst this is Day 1 of my treament with the TMS program, I have been suffering from Long Covid for over two years. Many ups and downs, but most of the time with life on a full hold. Just doing the bare minimum to get through the days and engaging in some activities to escape reality. An odd two months orso ago I stumbled upon TMS, started reading more, was completely struck by it and bought the book. I am now halfway through reading it and am already noticing some differences. Fear still comes up on a daily basis: "What if I cannot actually do this?"; "What if it doesn't work for me?". But I am now (sometimes) recognizing this fear and am growing in this journey.

Has anyone experienced or heard of someone improving their tinnitus with TMS as well? It is a separate condition to Long Covid, I've had it for longer, but since it is a physical sensation too, was wondering if it could be applied as well?

In any case, Long Covid is my primary concern at this point. Tinnitus is just an annoying inconvenience most days.

    Onwards we go.

    Cheers,
    'Toad'

Hey @Toad, welcome to the forum and the SEP! It sure sounds like you're in the right place.

Tinnitus is one of the most common peripheral symptoms that are often included in long lists of symptoms that people report, whether they are new to TMS theory or are reporting on their success stories. A few people regularly report tinnitus as a significant problem for them, and most if not all have found various levels of relief by applying the TMS work.

If you want to see what I mean, you could put tinnitus into our Search function, using "More" to limit your results only to the Success Stories subforum. In the results, choose the second tab "our forum only".

It's not just tinnitus of course. Dr Sarno's last two books only began to scratch the surface of what seem to be an infinite number of different ways our primitive brains can create symptoms and sensations designed to distract us from our emotions, and/or to treat the stress of our emotions as if we're about to be eaten by a saber tooth tiger in the primitive wilderness. Our primitive "survival-at-all-costs" brains literally do not know the difference, which is why TMS has become epidemic in today's world with its infinite sources of emotional and existential stresses.

This is what we are dealing with - but the good news is that we can use our rational conscious brains overcome it!

    Keep us posted :)

Thank you for taking the time to write a reply @JanAtheCPA. I'll look into the resources you mentioned specifically for tinnitus and keep at it with the program :)

Just to be clear - we don't have any resources specfici to tinnitus. I encourage you to read some Success Stories where tinnitus is often listed as just one of the symptoms that people experienced, and which resolved or significantly reduced after "doing the work" as we say here - meaning the emotional work which is embodied in the SEP.

Most people who complain specifically about tinnitus come to realize very quickly that they actually have a bunch of other mindbody symptoms they've spent years trying to manage with various mitigations (medications, PT, chiropractic, surgery). Those people initially find Dr Sarno and/or our forum simply because tinnitus has no such mitigations, and they are desperate to find an answer. The good news is that if they do the work, the answer they find is far above and beyond what they could have dreamed of.

In other words: the success stories will simply confirm your initial question, which is that tinnitus is just another in a long list of mindbody conditions which you CAN resolve by doing the work which you have started.

By the way, here is the catch phrase we employ which embodies the 180-degree mind shift that is needed to do this work: "Think Psychologically, Not Physically".

It's worth writing down and sticking on your bathroom mirror so you see it every day :D
