I started reading Dr Sarno’s book a week ago on Monday, and felt like it was describing me. Two years ago, I woke up with severe pain in my right leg. I had a regular pain and stiffness in my lower back that had been going on for some time, but the pain in my leg made walking very difficult.

I’ve said many times over the past two years I felt like my ‘injury’ was stress related but didn’t know what to do. I did start doing gentle yoga and mobility each morning as a way to loosen up and I’ve made incredible improvements in my flexibility and seen significant reduction in back pain but was still having issues with sciatica and walking.

Since last Monday, I spend a bit of time each day sending love and relaxation into my lower back and legs, as I can now feel how I clench and hold in these areas, due to anxiety. I’m also regularly checking in with myself as I go about my day and calming myself and releasing anxiety. At times when I feel some achiness in the leg or sciatica, I will pause and remind myself I don’t need to use pain to avoid emotions and I can relax.

It was such a pleasant surprise to get out of bed this morning, no pain, no stiffness and able to walk with no issues. I did start to feel some of the achiness return as I started to make my breakfast. Still feeling so much better since I started doing this work. A part of me feels silly it took this long to find Sarno’s book, as I’ve been saying the injury was due to stress. Feel like I’ve wasted a couple of years getting here. I’ll just have to hope there was a reason it took so long.
