I am a BACP accredited counsellor/psychotherapist in the UK. I first trained with Relate as a relationship counsellor then went on to do a Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Number of years in practice: 10
Number of years in practice with patients who have TMS: Just trained with SIRPA in the UK
Number of patients you have seen who have had TMS: I’ve just started work with TMS in a formal way but I’ve been working with it without knowing it for years. Many of my clients who came to me with emotional pain were also experiencing some kind of physical pain. When their therapy came to an end they would often mention that their physical pain had gone away too! About three years back I trained as an Emotional Freedom Technique practitioner. That was when my experience of pain being the presenting problem really began. My first success story was with Fibromyalgia when dealing with the suppressed emotions solved the pain
Have you ever suffered from TMS? Yes, Fibromyalgia and two “arthritic knees” I’m glad to say I am completely pain free.
What insurance plans do you currently accept? Not really applicable in the UK although I do work with Insurance companies who provide therapy for personnel in companies. We call them EAP’s
Do you have a sliding scale of payment for people who are not covered by insurance? Yes
Additional questions for Therapists
What have you done to educate yourself about TMS, and what plans do you have for further education about TMS? I began with reading the books by Dr. Sarno. Then Dr. Dave Clarke. I've also trained with SIRPA.
Are you able to conduct therapy sessions over the phone? Yes
As we are going to post your answers on the TMS Wiki, feel free to write some text to introduce yourself: When I first heard about TMS and stress illness it just confirmed for me what I had always known. I had been trained in Psychodynamic theory as part of my training so Dr. Sarno’s theories made a lot of sense to me. I’ve trained with Georgie Oldfield from SIRPA in the UK. Having experienced stress illness myself (without realising it at the time) I can offer both a personal and professional perspective. I look forward to being part of this group. Together we can make a big difference to our world!
