My Story
My story is potentially a Success Story …. but I am reluctant to start celebrating in case I am being hasty !.... and I am now also confused about any limits with TMS recovery . I will cover that in my first post .
I am 63 years old and have generally been very lucky all my life regarding health - no real issues other than mild hypertension .
About 5 years ago I started to pee more at nights , doc checked prostate and advised me I had mild BPH . Since then I have tried meds twice , but they made no difference so I stopped meds and have just accepted to live with trying to limit liquids at night and having broken sleep patterns …. I would like to explore if TMS can help with that but I am a bit confused …. more about this later …
About 3 years ago , I started getting abdomen/groin pains , location would often change , sometimes going away . I had already been wondering if they could be linked to stressful periods , but I started to worry that there could be something sinister . The pains got worse this time last year , the doc was great and arranged for me to have MRI , cystoscopy , all possible blood tests and visits to urologist and gastro specialist .
On the one hand , I was relieved to be told that nothing obvious could be found . But afterwards , I did feel a bit abandoned by the system . Any further meetings with the doc left me frustrated – I still had those strong random pains , they were real , sometimes for a few weeks then they would fade for a few more weeks etc . The doc did suggest stress but she did not help with developing anything further . It seemed that she felt she had done her bit by arranging tests and specialists to rule out anything bad and I was now wasting her time .
But the pains still came and in recent months I have been reading up and came to the conclusion that I probably get IBS …. it seems to be the best match . I did wonder why the doc or specialists could not have helped me explore this further , but anyhow I felt pleased that I seemed to have at least identified my pains .
While browsing for more info , I discovered TMS . I got Dr Sarno’s The Divided Mind on audiobook and for me , everything clicked ! I recognised my traits as fitting the profile and as I had already suspected that my IBS pains were caused by stress , I immediately and totally accepted the TMS explanations from Dr Sarno .
In the last month I have greatly enjoyed listening to The Divided Mind , probably about 6 times so far ! I also listened a couple of times to Dr Sarno’s Top 10 by Steve Ozanich and I took a lot from that as well .
Since then , I have not had any bouts of pain in my abdomen or groin ! None , nothing ! I still think that it is too good to be true and I will be very disappointed (but not surprised) if they return ,
I do take hope in Dr Sarno’s saying that indeed for some people , the knowledge of TMS and acceptance of how it all works is sufficient for them to get better . I will continue to listen to his works and explore more about TMS through this website .
So that is my story so far , but I am now at a point of confusion and lost as to how/if to proceed with my prostate/peeing . I will cover this in my first posting shortly . - Loading...
