Athletic addiction (well, any addiction)

Here's great insight into why some athletes (and other people) can push themselves to the brink, why they are often compelled to just keep on working through any symptom, or injury...and frankly it applies to anyone who has addictive behaviors (which can include addictive or OCD type thoughts). It brings up a "New" to me theory of Adult Children - this idea of adult children encompasses many of the personality traits Dr. Sarno described as people who often have TMS, and also fits into the ACE's test- and how ACE's even when subtle can effect the way you have learned to operate in the world.
    It's an interesting consideration.

This was a good article. Apparently I'm an Adult Child. This fits me perfectly: "To cope with potentially unpredictable people and surroundings, Adult Children develop behaviors that keep them safe and attached to caregivers."

@Joulegirl I posted this, and Jessica wrote about this because, I'm quite sure she suspects it's a very common trait of people with TMS - it's it all part of people pleasing and perfectionism?

I thought Sarno encouraged continuing activity as much as possible with symptoms. (Only speaking to the athlete side of this and not pushing in other areas of life.)

You need to read the article to understand the difference between “activity” and what can drive athleticism.

I did. I guess I wasn't seeing the difference, but I can understand how that's likely a personal perspective. It was interesting to read, thanks for sharing.
