Channel 4 has given Dr. Chatterjee, a 4 part programme, and I believe that the first episode airring Thurs. Jan 8th (don't know the time) is focusing on chronic pain.
I've seen Dr. Chatterjee speak many times, and I like much of what he has to say (he does not just talking about chronic pain but also chronic conditions and lifestyle illnesses). I first heard him speak about how we perceive our brain as some amazing cosmic entity and the essence of ourselves. It's something we as Western society have become to believe - and we believe the things it generates like thoughts, dis-ease etc. and it really blew me away when he said the brain is in truth, merely an organ just like the lungs or kidneys.
We don't let our kidneys, heart or liver boss us around, so why do we let the brain do these things?
The brain is an organ. It's not the essence of who we are, and it's not the mind. The mind and body are interlinked, but the brain is simply central command.

I wish I could watch this programme, I think it will offer some interesting concepts especially as related to TMS and the mind/body which he definitely has an interest in.

Nice one, @Cactusflower! It's on at 8pm GMT—I've set up to record it (it will also be available on Channel 4 'on demand' viewing for a while). It says it's a 1-hour special rather than in 4 parts, but will double check. Will share any poignant bits. :)

Wow, this has blown me away. The mind is so much more than the brain I’ve never considered it that way!

I can't wait to hear your review on it. Maybe it will go up on youtube at some point! One can only hope!

I watched it! It was a section in a longer programme, so of course only able to cover points very lightly, but laid a good basic trail for people who are receptive to follow... included a piece with Georgie Oldfield and an interview with Howard Schubiner - didn't mention Sarno or TMS at all - called it a 'new technique' of 'Pain Reprocessing Therapy'. A patient was being talked through a relaxation exercise, getting into his body and letting it know it was safe...

The case history was a young woman who'd had a broken ankle as a child then had developed what sounds like complex regional pain syndrome - Dr C seemed horrified at the random invasive treatments that had been thrown at her over the years; none of us would be surprised... She was doing really well, with that special joy that comes with leaving behind years of chronic pain... Heartening to see you can have this stuff for decades and still overcome it...

I thought it was a good programme, well-balanced and informative, though TV can only go so deep (it was better than a lot of the New Year Lifestyle rubbish that's on at this time of year!) The other two sections were on lifestyle changes rather than drugs for type 2 diabetes and depression. Dr Chatterjee talks a lot of sense, though no one will ever convince me about ice baths... He has a website with podcasts by Howard Schubiner and Gabor Mate among others if you're interested.

Just happy to see it getting airtime like that.
