Hello everyone I really want help with this

    Hey everyone,

I’m a 32-year-old guy. About three years ago, while traveling, I got a really painful anal fissure. Since then, I’ve been dealing with severe anal and perineal pain. It lasted for about four months, went away for a bit, then came back in the winter of 2023 even worse.

Doctors told me the fissure had healed, and tests for STDs were all negative. Eventually, one doctor said it’s chronic prostatitis — even though I don’t have any urinary issues. That really scared me. I tried ultrasound therapy and took antibiotics for 90 days, but it didn’t help.

Strangely, by summer 2023, I felt totally fine again. But every winter, or even when the air pressure changes, the pain returns. Now I’m living in Germany, and with the harsh winters here, I’m honestly worried it’ll flare up again.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this possibly be managed with TMS strategies?

All chronic conditions, due to the vicious cycle of fear-symptoms-anxiety-more symptoms-pressure-more symptoms- etc... can be managed with TMS strategies. This is a condition known to be made worse with self-induced stress.

Let us know if you need guidance about where to start (start with where your knowledge level is).

Thank you so much for your reply.

I’m new here and honestly don’t really know where to start. Do you think the cold weather could actually make the condition worse because of TMS, or is it just my mind and emotions making it feel that way?

Weather has been shown to have no effect on chronic issues so you will be fine with the cold weather -> it is your mind and emotions that create fear and expectation that cold weather can increase symptoms. With the TMS approach you can learn that no matter the weather you are healthy and strong. However, this is a strong cultural myth so it might take some disentangling.

If this helps, I look for an increase/decrease of symptoms with weather changes to confirm with clients that their pain is TMS/brain-induced as there is no physical explanation for pain increasing with weather shifts.

As you are new to this a good place to start is the SEP - a great free resource that will take you step-by-step through the TMS method.

Thank you so much for the helpful information.

Your reply really gives me hope. I’ll definitely try to apply it. By the way, are there any success stories of people who had the same symptoms in cold weather and managed to recover through TMS strategies?

I've done a wee search. Ellen in this thread said it perfectly and recovered from migraines (this is to do with barometric pressure but same idea applies) - https://www.tmswiki.org/forum/threads/weathers-affecting-my-symptoms.5901/

It is about conditioning. There will have been times with worse pain with cold weather and your brain has made an association. Now the association is cold weather=pain. But if you can keep telling yourself and know that it makes no sense that cold weather causes pain the association will be broken. And the fun part is you get to make a new association like cold weather = safe and pain-free.
