My Brain isn't convinced I have Mind Body Syndrome

For the past 2 years I've had pain in the back of my right thigh/glute while sitting down which later became pain in right thigh while standing up as well. I went to tons of doctors and physical therapists and they couldn't find anything wrong other than a "bulging disc" that could be causing sciatica but reading unlearn your pain gave me proper evidence to prove that isn't causing the pain. I'm currently reading unlearn your pain and I find it hard to convince myself Its not a structural issue with my body. Despite the pain disappearing when I go on runs and subsiding when I'm distracted, I find it hard to convince my mind to feel safe because I'm still doubting that it's mind body syndrome. Any tips on convincing my mind it's mbs?

    Step 1: convince yourself
    Step 2: convince your brain

    So easy, so hard!!

    Some suggestions:

Put post-it notes all over your house which say, 'The pain disappears when I run -- this is an inconsistency which proves that it's mbs!' and make a point of reading them regularly.

Practise zero tolerance of any thoughts that pop into your head that the pain might be physical. When you notice you're having those thoughts, don't let them continue like a dog following a scent. Change the subject... My favourite thing to do is to say to myself (or out loud) "peace" and keep repeating it to make my brain shut up from looping and worry warting about symptoms.

Get comfortable with being uncomfortable -- by that I mean when you experience the pain, acknowledge it and then carry on with what you're doing the best you can despite the pain because if you don't 'what you resist, persists'... so don't recoil from or fight with the pain -- consider making a practise of examining it (meditate on it... is it sharp, tingly, radiating, pulsating etc?) as this will give your brain messages of safety concerning it.

Work the program in Unlearn Your Pain. As you start to heal, you will be convinced.
