Has anyone here ever tied the Trauma Release Exercises by David Berceli and did you find them helpful? I feel like I have stuffed sooo much tension into myself over the years and live so anxiously that a direct approach like his holds a lot of appeal for me. Also, I have always wondered whether I suffered an abuse that I do not remember, so his approach would address this as well. My TMS doc's approach is to have me make a list of all of the things that could have caused me rage through my life and go over it each day. Is that the typical approach that Sarno came up with? He said that if you leave one thing off it could be the one that you need to remember and then you may not heal. So, if someone was abused and does not remember it, is this a problem for TMS healing? Thanks a lot guys,

    Andrew

I'm not sure about the TRE Release, but releasing tms pressures and stressors is as easy as letting go of all the things you are stressed or pressured at.
That list the Dr. Told you to make, your tms doc, well it's a list of things you need to stop letting eat at you often unconsciously, really think about that list and see if you have reactions to the issues you put there and then ask why do you have those reactions, this question why will usually show you that you have power over your reactions ok.
The list is also so you can become desensitized in your nervous system to all those reactions and pressures and stressors and tensed emotional situations.
A small step each day will help you in your recovery, like if the pain or anxiety is getting to you, then stop trying to beat it so hard, take a slower approach.

Let me ask you what makes you emotionally pressured, like what is it right now that's bugging you and you can't seem to make it stop? Besides the pain ok.

Thank you Herbie. I am not sure if you asked your question rhetorically or not. So, I'll just give an answer. There are many things that I feel pressured by, but one is feeling directionless in life (this has been one of my biggest issues in life) and going back to try a class in something I am ambivalent about in an attempt to move myself in some direction (I've never been able to pick something and know it was the right thing for me). And not having an income. My dad is also in the hospital awaiting triple bypass (haven't even really felt the emotions of that one) and my girlfriend/best friend of 11 years left me a month ago largely because of my self-absorption with my condition. The decision to leave my longtime counselor and group counseling support network to seek TMS therapy is another. And needing to find another place to live. Those are the tangible, non-personality characteristic kinds of issues on my list. There are, of course, many non-tangible issues that make me feel emotionally pressured too that seem out of my control at the present moment. Hopefully I am within bounds to give these details without coming off as complaining. I guess I always feel like I will put people off by explaining my situation. I like how you said, "releasing tms pressures and stressors is as easy as letting go of all the things you are stressed or pressured at." Sounds like the hardest thing on the planet. But I did appreciate that you said to take small steps and a slower approach if necessary. A large part of my healing will be to learn to stop beating myself with shoulds.

    blackdog,
Maybe listen to this song for help on relieving your pressures and stresses.
Ricky Nelson wrote "Garden Party" years ago and it still makes sense.

You answered everything you have to work on in your post here blackdog, Tom gave some great advice too. This won't be easy to let go and accept and reframe most of your life pressures and stressors but taking it slow and with small steps will help you in the long run. Like I said, you mentioned everything above you need to work on ok, why did you stop going to your group counseling? Let me know, thanks.

Some therapists feel that you can get mixed up if you work with more than one therapist at the same time. My counselor has that opinion, I guess, so has a standing policy that people can come back to her, but can not see her while they choose another therapeutic approach for a period of time. This is true for the counseling group with her and even her meditation group as well for some reason. I am guessing that working with a TMS therapist may take some time for me (as you said, small steps), so I am sad that I will have to leave her and the group.
