I have chronic pain and some swelling in right ankle and intermittent knee pain which has recently flared due to a somewhat invasive medical procedure (I know , should never have done succumbed to pressure)? I was finally making some progress on overcoming fear of movement had increased my walking. I was actually laughing once in a while after a dreadful past year, but since last week have only become more limited and pain has increased dramatically, reversing all my perceived gains

    help?

Yeah I know, hard to do. I listen to a lot of his talks buts it’s been so long since I had ability to feel at all like I might be able to resume any of my daily activities
I’ve lost so much this year. Thanks though…trying to remain hopeful

A suggestion for you to take or leave: When it's too painful or whatever to do the activities that you want to do, imagine/visualize yourself doing them. I was bedridden with my TMS symptoms (which included profound ankle pain, buttock pain and truly absolutely horrendous thigh pain) and that's what I did to be able to walk and do things again. I made an at least once, but usually twice or more, daily practise of it... Lie or sit, do some slow breathing to begin, and then take the time to mentally walk your way through those activities in defiance of your brain. Imagine/visualize/picture your knee and ankle being perfectly peaceful and that you're walking somewhere you need or want to go with ease. Visualize it as if you were someone else observing you walking perfectly well and also, and most importantly, visualize and feel yourself walking perfectly well, easily and smoothly from within yourself, from your mind's eye.

Sometimes trying too hard to get rid of the symptoms makes things even worse. I definitely experienced this first hand! You want to teach your brain that the sensations are safe. One thing I learned along the way is that even if your pain increased or moved to other places, it doesn’t mean you are starting back at 0. Keep that in mind, too. There’s nothing wrong with you. You will get better. Keep reminding your brain you are safe, there’s nothing wrong with you, and move onto whatever you were doing.

Yes I think my progress was set back by having had someone manipulate my healing ankle and now more pain swelling and fear
So I'm not sure if actually structural or mind body become obsessed about what to do. sometimes the energy to do the work is depleted if pain/fear all das and night

You need to re-read Dr. Sarno. It is called extinction burst, very common part of the healing process. You need to stop panicking and stay the course.
