Yes, the ego is a powerful force because it is not us but something we have allowed to develop over the years. ME becomes so important. That little inner voice gets louder and louder as the years pass unless we recognise what effect it's having on our lives, and few people do.
Setbacks will occur, and that is a fact, but it's how we handle them that matters. I am afraid it still comes down to acceptance. The body, if subjected to continual stress, will become hyper sensitive so that any little pain will get blown up out of all proportion.
Stop trying to reassure yourself all the time. That just adds to the anxiety because anticipation is one of the real bogeys in anxiety. The ego will never be satisfied with any reasonable explanation, but will always seek the negative. WE are in charge not the ego. Who is we? That other little voice that KNOWS all is really well but is swamped by the loud voice of the ego.
Allow it to speak to you, the real you.
