  • My Story

Around age 19 I felt like my gate was off & was given orthotics. At 21 I injured an ankle & was put on crutches for 4 weeks. Afterwards my gate clearly was off and, I know from old photos, my left shoulder was higher than my right. Although my shoulders leveled out somewhat--my right shoulder/neck is still much tighter than my left--the feeling of an imbalance or asymmetry grew and stayed with me. However, roughly the last 10-15 yrs it's affected my ability to do physical activities. Although I discovered Sarno around 2010, I only had a temporary respite from much of my pain. It came back, I put the book aside & didn't think much of it until discovering Curable's podcast in 2019, by which point I had developed severe anxiety. Since then I've used Curable's app and JournalSpeak, among other techniques at times. In particular ISTDP has been helpful in confronting unexpressed feelings, particularly around current and past relationships. My anxiety has returned to healthy levels and certain pains have abated, but that feeling of asymmetry and associated tight muscles, pains, etc. has not.
