The cool thing this book is teaching me is that your thoughts create your feelings. So when I feel bad, I know something is lurking under there—some wrong or unfair thought. I just throw a few things out there—aiming for the strongest feelings I can get—and it doesn’t take long to nail down the errant thought or thoughts. Once I work to correct the thought, I immediately feel better. I have kept all my notes. And I have about 10 things I repeat over and over. All of them are one form or another of calling myself a bad person. Or, expressing that things are hopeless or people don’t like me. My most common cognitive distortion (wrong thinking pattern) is over-generalization (taking one small thing and blowing it up out of proportion). This has all been fascinating to me. A little overwhelming, at first. But now it’s easier. And totally worth it. I’ve had tons of therapy, but had never encountered this before.

It is called catastrophizing. Very common trait of the TMSers. You can train yourself out of it and it helps a lot with handling stressful situations.
