    I believe hobbies and those things we LOVE and have a passion for are what will counter-balance TMS. So here's a chance to share what you love :)

    Sky Gazing, Cloudwatching, and Star Observation
    Sun Bathing and Sun Naps (oh that feeling when you sit in a patch of sun and it's just heaven)
    Listening to music

    Sunrises and Sunsets

    Hi, MindBodyPT, I stumbled upon a podcast recently that I think you'd enjoy. It's called "Seincast." Two pretty funny best friends discuss the "excruciating minutiae" of every single Seinfeld episode. I listen to it while I stroll the neighborhood or hike. Very entertaining. Curious who your favorite authors are. I'm just beginning Commonwealth by Ann Patchett. My favorite author is Sarah Waters.

    Hi alamobecky!

    I used to watch Seinfeld a lot with my family, we were big fans! Thanks for the share. I don't have any specific authors that I follow but am currently reading a few things- some works by Thich Nhat Hanh, a Japanese memoir called Where The Dead Pause and the Japanese Say Goodbye, and Anathem, by Neal Stephenson (my husband loves and I finally caved to reading it even though its super long!)

    I am a self-admitted word-freak (and this is said with self love ;) ). Hobbies are activities done in leisure time. My list is not things done in the little gaps of time between doing things I'd rather not do .... my list is an integral aspect of my life.

    ~Devouring books
    ~Watching the Bees and the Hummingbirds sip nectar from flowers
    ~Talking to Wasps (such social creatures!)
    ~Listening to the Trees that grace our Land (Sebastian is our old old old Willow, and the Black Locust Tree houses a wild Bee hive within the base of the trunk)
    [IMG]
    ~Devoting time to creatively re-using container that most people throw away ... and here is an example:
    [IMG]
    [IMG]
    These are what I made from two yogurt container ... a Bohemian Dream Catcher and planters for my growing collection of African Violets. The cozy is made using Tunisian crochet stitches.

    ~Dot Painting (which has done exceptionally well at our local Farmers' Market)
    [IMG]

    ~ Poi Spinning (and making the Poi)
    [IMG]

    ~ Making sparkly jewelry (we must sparkle to show the Faeries that we love them!)
    ~ Newly making wire Fey arm bands
    ~ Crocheting
    ~ Harvesting my Herbs (after asking permission and expressing gratitude)
    ~ Harvesting the apples and black berries and grapes
    ~ Making healing salves and balms
    ~ Meditating
    ~ Dance, in the form of flowing motions that incorporate yoga, belly dancing and whatever feels good!
    ~ Spending time with our beloved Lucy (a Golden Retriever/Lab rescued dog)
    ~ Writing
    ~ Just being with my Husband of 30 years

    .... No, these are not hobbies ... they are my Life.

    .... with Love and Gratitude <3

    Hmmm I too am not sure these should be called hobbies, or just my life, as it is now.

    Some of my enjoyments include:
    Watching the many birds, squirrels and other creatures that come to our deck to feed on special grains, etc.;
    Watching the many butterflies that feed on the nectar in our garden;
    Reading an engrossing book;
    Creating pots and other items from clay;
    Writing poetry;
    Being in our home in the mountains, in the middle of the forest, just listening to nature;
    Going to auctions, not necessarily to purchase any thing, but to enjoy the festive atmosphere of the crowd and the auctioneers;
    Interacting with my pets;
    Having coffee with good friends;

    - knitting sweaters and giving them away;
    - lifting weights;
    - petting and playing with my dear cat;
    - reading;
    - practicing the presence of God;
    - doing yoga and pilates;
    - cooking;
    - making rugs and bookmarks;
    - being out in the nature;
    - serving others, sometimes just by sending prayers for them;
    - practicing positive affirmations;

    Reading. Pretty much anything. Right now reading a non-fiction about Marie Antoinette's daughter, Child of Terror; and Jodi Picoult's Salem Falls.

    Needlework. Cross-stitch and needlepoint. I've tried knitting but it just didn't work out for me.

    Writing. I've got some non-fiction stuff I've been aiming to put into book form; a historical novel, and some short stories that I am going to dust off and spruce up and do something with now that I've got TMS on the run.

    Music. Listening to it and relearning the piano. Too many years of TMS back pain made it hard to sit. And, actually, to do anything.

    Now that I look at my list, I see I don't have anything that is active. I do enjoy nature hikes. I am too cowardly to try mountaineering. I can't deal with heights. Step ladders make me woozy.

    I love astronomy but pretty much on the basis of looking at pictures or watching the skies at night. Reading about it gets too technical for me.

    Thanks for posting a fun topic!

    I didn't see your list to start with. I'm an American Anglophile as well. I love yoga - restorative yoga saved my life. Love the birds, too.
