  • My Story

About a month ago we came back from visiting our university going daughter and when I woke up the next morning I had severe pain from my hip to my foot, sciatica, and could barely move.

Even before I read Dr Sarno's book (Healing Back Pain) I suspected this was in my mind. Since the end of last year I'd had a lot of stress. I left one of my publishers (I'm a writer) whom I liked a lot. I had financial problems. Then my daughter began to have serious problems at university. Beyond this I have some issues with self worth especially regarding my career that were plagueing me.

From last year my body was trying to warn me. First I had severe pain in my left heel. it was so much that I had to stop my morning aerobics. I kept doing the stretches i was told to do but nothing cured it.

Then my hip started hurting. I just kept on. Then my husband told me I was walking crooked. Still I carried on. Then everything stopped and I was forced to stay in bed.

I went to a chiropractor. He did three deep muscle treatments but no pain relief. He did an xray and got all nervous. He said I must go for an MRI because it looked like my disc was collapsed causing my spine to go crooked. It would likely need disc fusion surgery.

I freaked. I've never had surgery in my life and the very idea of someone cutting into my back scared the crap out of me. My pain went through the roof. I went in search of answers and found Dr Sarno.

Right now I'm waiting for my MRI on Monday (13 May) just to rule out anything serious. I'm working the educational programme. I'm feeling less pain but am still mostly bed ridden though I'm trying to do more and more each day. I accept it will take a bit of time and I'm patient.
