Your pain is helping you right now becoz u r not where u want to be

Thanks, I hadn't thought of it like that. But how does one stop the unconscious from dwelling on past stresses?

    Back to square one...

Tom, thanks for posting this. I had forgotten about it. I can now see that some recent events, which don't seem particularly stressful in themselves, have added up and may explain why TMS has reared its ugly head again. In particular, getting promoted, my car having a flat tire, increased...

New to TMS - Question about excercise

For me, the exercise helped a great deal. You just have to make sure you're doing something that you enjoy, for enjoyment, rather than something that focuses your mind on the pain. Could the pain in your chest be a result of the TMS moving now that it realises you're taking control. This seems...

    Slight relapse after a year

Edit: I've also had a string of flu and colds lately (after being healthy for ages). This has stopped me cycling temporarily and also got me down a bit. The TMS was always worse when I was otherwise ill.

    Slight relapse after a year

It must be almost exactly a year to the day that I “discovered” TMS. Within a week or so I was feeling a lot better and I would say within about a month I was completely cured. After four years of agony I was finally able to ride a bike again and was so happy! I bought a new racing bike in...

Having the strength to keep going

Hi huskarl, I know some people have a lot of trouble finding out what's stressing them... I certainly think a lot of my stress was derived from the pain itself, i.e. I think I did hurt my back initially, and then worrying about that made the pain get worse and worse, when in fact my back was...

    Hay Fever Time!

Can't speak for you Tom, but I get colds all winter, and they're very different to my hay fever. With colds I actually feel ill, whereas with hay fever I just can hardly see with my eyes watering so much and constant sneezing. I'm sure these things affect us all differently though.

    Hay Fever Time!

Yesterday my hay fever started to appear for the first time this year. It's later than normal, which is odd as we've had the 3rd warmest spring on record. Last year was dreadful despite poor weather! Now I've had hay fever for longer than I've had back pain, but I can see how it could be TMS...

    Is Fibro a Real Disease

Hi all, Strangely I'd never even heard of fibromyalgia till I discovered TMS, but ever since I've heard about it on the news over here. Most of you are probably not familiar with "NHS Choices" but it's the website here that doctors recommend you look at if you want to learn more about a...

Day 4 Most Disheartening Dr. Comment

Hi Mara, Your first comment is certainly very similar to mine, and is probably what led me to discover Dr Sarno's work. I went to see (yet another) consultant, this time supposedly one of the best neurosurgeons in the UK. I had been through so many other practitioners who said they couldn't...

    The need for oxygen depletion

Thanks for your post Mr Fool. I've not continued to take painkillers but then I'd long since given up on them anyway - they never helped! Anyway, I managed to cycle 18 miles today which I couldn't have dreamt of a few weeks back. I hope you enjoy similar progress. I've had a sore throat for...

Call in Book Discussion: Tuesday, May 20th

Thanks for that becca; I can't really stay up that late on a work night (1 am here) so it's great to be able to listen again.

    The need for oxygen depletion

Thanks Tom, very good point. I was actually told to try a weak dose of some anti - depressant about a year ago by a pain clinician (I can't remember what it was called). But I didn't want to go down that route as I didn't want my personality changed. Having had OCD/ME when I was growing up I'm...
