Day 39 How to improve program

    The question asks for my thoughts about how to improve this program.

    You’re asking me? I guess you might get a gem from someone. So I’ll put one out there and hope it’s a geode.

    The best part for me, was the journaling. It was hard, intense, humbling, relieving. I hated it. So that means it was beneficial. Even though I avoided it until the end of each day, even though I despised the three subject columns, even though I thought I’d covered the waterfront previously, even though I wrote late into the night not wanting to screw up my mornings with my feelings, I think journaling can be expanded or extended…make us emote!!! Or at least push us to. Perhaps increase the length of the program by an additional week if volunteer staff can deal with the extra load.

    One thing I did not relate to is the spider journaling. It felt truncated and I felt cheated. For me, it is not effective.

    That’s all folks! My grateful thanks to all who put this superb program together and most especially to those who tend the herd!

    @Mtnjac
    I felt the same way about spider writing until well after completion. Now If I want to get to the heart of the matter quickly, it works like a charm. I don’t need to dig and excavate: just recognize and acknowledge, and it is handy for that.

    Hah, that's awesome that you want to keep going, @Mtnjac! Although I'm recalling someone, not too long ago, who experienced a letdown upon reaching the final Day - a significant "Yikes, now what?!" feeling, and I wonder if that's playing a role in your suggestion to extend the SEP?

    I'm not going to ask Forest to add more days to the SEP, but I can edit existing pages, and I have an idea: I wonder if we might link the final Day to a new ongoing Day 42 discussion thread here in this subforum, where people who make it all the way through can check in and report on... well, on whatever they feel like reporting. In other words, I can pretty easily insert a new final paragraph on the Day 42 wiki page with a link to the thread, inviting participants to post their thoughts or feedback or plans or next-step ideas, etc.

    It could help with the transition from structure to "now what?"; it would offer a well-deserved source of positive feedback and kudos from forum members; it could encourage people who've been doing the SEP without posting, who might be willing to post to an existing thread where others are sharing in the accomplishment (we'd love to know who they are!); and it might even help make the SEP more visible or feel more doable to people who are struggling to get started.

    Win-win-win?

    I welcome your thoughts (not that I want to distract you in your final few days, @Mtnjac! ;)) And anyone else of course!

    Wonderful idea! Yes, win-win-win. It achieves the same thing only easier for all. Thank you!

    Oops, I forgot to add that subliminally, I probably am feeling some separation anxiety. Right on, JanA!
