The science of the brain and chronic pain is no less scientific than the science of the testicles. If you think this site is about "witchcraft", then your choice should be easy and my or anyone else's opinion here is irrelevant. Whatever choice you make is the right one for you.

There's no narrative here. I tried to focus my story on facts - came in with mild pain, walked out with severe pain. I screamed "ow" during the exam several times. It genuinely and realistically hurt. You know, kinda like when you get a paper cut. Or take a fall. Or break your nose. Pain is real. It's not something we can magically switch off whenever we just put our mind to it. Our body needs to heal, and then the pain gradually fades away. That's how it works. I respectfully admire that you've hacked your brain to control pain, but that's just not how it works for the most of us. Most of us need NSAID, rest, compresses, etc. You know, the boring old scientifically-proven methods that actually work. But that doesn't fit the narrative I suppose.

I'm not doubting your account of events or your pain and suffering whatsoever. Our brain makes decisions based on perception of threat or harm. Sometimes our brain can make a mistake or "over correct" in a sense by sending signals of pain to alert us, even long after the initial threat has passed. Since this is so recent, you may still be in the acute phase of pain. The body has an innate ability to heal and that's why rest and anti inflammatories do help with acute pain. When it is pain continuing after 3 months, then the person has entered the "chronic" pain zone , which is mediated by another region of the brain. When I referred to "narrative", what I meant was the brain creates attributions to the cause. This "narrative" or attribution is not always correct. I hope I clarified.

Thank you for clarifying. I am not yet in the chronic zone, though judging by the lack of progress I may get there. I also haven't exhausted my medical options yet. Perhaps I did post here prematurely.

FWIW, I went ahead and removed the link to my blog and the doctor's name, just so I'm not accused of promoting anything...
