We have a well- known one here at OSU but I'm still thinking about it, his initial consult fee is very high with no insurance submission. Something to consider for sure.

The high consulting fee is another factor for raging. TMS doctors probably have to get out of the insurance traps to actually get paid, but the prohibiting fees would piss patients off. In Nicole's first book, she described her mom helped her come up with $1000 to see Dr. Sarno for 1 hour or so. That was more than 20 years ago. And how lucky that $1000 really transformed her life and how lucky they could pay $1000 back then! On the other hand, there are many successful stories of people without seeing a TMS doctor. Seeing the doctor is a way of validation or a way to disapprove one's doubts or maybe another distraction?

Call and ask if they Superbill and then see if your insurance accepts Superbills. You will at least have the chance at getting something back.

Sadly, most TMS doctor's don't work under insurance because they don't generate income and services by keeping their patients "sick" and using more services that can be billed to insurance.
